Health Workshops

 

Detroit Friendship House is committed to empowering our community with essential health knowledge and resources. In partnership with Henry Ford Health Clinic, we are offering a series of workshops designed to educate and support individuals in achieving better health outcomes.

Through these workshops, we aim to provide accessible healthcare education, improve health literacy, and connect individuals with vital medical resources. Our goal is to create a healthier, informed, and empowered community.

 

Workshop Topics

April-Nutrition and Wellness

Learn about heathly eating habits to manage heart health and diabetes, Join us for an evening Yoga session.

May-Womens wellness and self care

Join Dr. Thorton and team to discuss signs and symptoms of anxitey and learn some healthy coping mechanisms.

June-Womens reproductive and Maternal Health

Women's Wellness Group

This bi-weekly group session, led by a licensed behavioral therapist,Kendra Blount (Good Vibes LLC), provides a safe and supportive space for women to discuss mental health, self-care, and emotional well-being. Join us to engage in meaningful conversations and build a strong, supportive community.

Past Workshops

  • This workshop opened with a 30 minute yoga session, led by Dr. Martin. Many women are trying yoga for the first time, learning this new excersize method.

    Dr. Byk lead the presentation linking excersize like yoga and brisk walking to keeping heart disease and diabetes at bay, while Dr. Ngo discussed macro and micro nutrients and important food groups to eat throught the day.

  • Hosted by Henry Ford Clinic team: Dr. Islam, Dr. Gupta, Dr. Byk

    Topics covered: Breast Cancer, Cervical Cancer, Colon Cancer, Osteoperosis

  • In partnership with EMU CHDIS, we provided two workshops, connecting women with screening services, and helped reduce barriers to care.

    During these workshops, eligible participants were able to enroll in the BC3NP program and receive necessary screenings.
